Dear OTSA Members,

Writing to you today with a few reminders (and from our new listhost!) about upcoming events and deadlines.

This Friday at 12PM CST we are hosting another installment of W'OTSAp Fridays, featuring a talk by Yohanan Benhaim titled "Drones, Cartoons and Festivals: Techno-Nationalist Culture in Turkey." This presentation explores the rise of techno-nationalist culture in Turkey through one of its most spectacular manifestations: the Teknofest festivals, dedicated to technology and aerospace, which have drawn several million visitors annually since 2018. Through an array of shows, songs, and video installations, these mass events actively promote representations of history, of Turkey's place in the regional and global order, and a specific vision of youth. Drawing on these cultural productions, this presentation interrogates how Teknofest operates as a key site for the fabrication and dissemination of techno-nationalist imaginaries in contemporary Turkey.

You can read more about the event and register at the link below!

The deadline for our Undergraduate Prize is coming up on March 1. Please see the link below for the call for applications, we hope you will encourage your excellent undergraduate students interested in studying in Turkey this summer to apply!

We look forward to seeing as many of you as possible on Friday for a fascinating conversation!

Best wishes,

James Ryan
Executive Director, OTSA
